Persephone: A Rock Ballet is the creation of composer David J Murphy and choreographer Hilary K Jordan. It’s a musical dance production based on the Greek myth. Unlike a standard musical, the songs are not sung by the characters on stage, but performed by a live band. Think The Nutcracker but with catchy progressive rock tunes and cross-genre dance performances, or something like Tommy by The Who.

The production went on stage for two performances in 2012 by the good graces of many Kickstarter donors and the hard work of the creators, along with over 30 dancers and several stage crew.

A DVD was produced by David’s brother Ed, which is now viewable for free on YouTube.

If you want the songs without the visual half of the show, check out the soundtrack on David’s bandcamp page.
